My son Aidan turns 8 years old today, which has happened much too fast. Happy birthday, trouble.
My friend Aidan is travelling through India, and has set up a blog to record his experiences. He happens to be a fantastic photographer (see below, and check out his site for more examples), and has included some great shots from his travels in his posts.
His entries are descriptive and thoughtful, and there’s a real […]
We’re going to Cuba for a week. Hope to come back relaxed and with lots of new photos.

This rusty old el Camino was waiting for us at our destination.
I took the train into Toronto on Thursday for a farewell party for my friend Aidan. He’s going to live in Spain for a while - check out his site for some amazing photography.
There was a heavy fog over the city, and as I walked between the larger Union station and the Union subway station, […]
After an afternoon of apple-picking, we took the kids by the McDonald’s featured in the last post to see what progress had been made. Aidan was DELIGHTED to see that some local vandals had edited the sign (previously “Renovating For You”). I was too.
They’re tearing down the local McDonald’s to make way for a new, improved “quick service restaurant experience”. I think the Play Place looks about 12 times more fun like this.
I love this flickr group. It doesn’t matter how many times I look at the photos, the forts still seem alien. There’s a good short history of the Maunsell forts at The Utatan.
These were taken on the Great Wall at Mutianyu in September of 2006. I wanted them to look like they’d been taken about 100 years earlier, so I aged them in Photoshop.

The Sea of Wisdom Temple is perched at the summit of the vertigo-inducing Longevity Hill, in the Summer Palace, Beijing. It’s swathed in 1,100 gold and green statuettes of the Infinite Longevity Buddha. I took these shots with my Canon SD200, and enhanced them in Photoshop.
Texture provided by the tabletop at a bar in Austin at last year’s SXSW.
This was taken in the Forbidden City in Beijing with my little Canon SD200, and put through the cross-process Photoshop action. I added a texture from a shot I took this weekend.
I’ve been playing with creating a non-destructive action in Photoshop to give photos a cross-processed look and add the kind of vignetting you see in Holga shots. I’d like the vignetting to be a bit more random, but I need to spend more time on that. This photo uses the action as-is with no further […]
